As the world faces an increasingly acute environmental crisis, researchers globally are investing tremendous efforts in developing novel technologies to mitigate damage to our planet. The Technion is committed to playing a leading role in this global quest to solve pressing environmental issues. One of our most pressing challenges is the development of sustainable catalytic processes that will dramatically reduce negative impact on the environment. A wide range of industries already employ catalysis in their production processes, and it is imperative to develop ever more efficient catalytic solutions to promote clean technologies for a more sustainable world.
Thanks to very generous support from Stewart and Lynda Resnick, the Technion Resnick Sustainability Center for Catalysis will advance the development and dissemination of innovative catalysis-based knowledge and technologies contributing to a more sustainable world. By consolidating the extensive research currently conducted in many different academic faculties throughout the Technion on the topic of catalysis, the new Center will significantly accelerate and expand the scope of activities in this field.
In addition to serving as a physical hub for state-of-the-art multidisciplinary research, the Resnick Sustainability Center nurtures a broad community of excellence cultivating the next generation of leaders in catalytic research. It will act as both a national and international center of advanced catalysis-related activities, encouraging the development of innovative and creative technologies that will lead to more sustainable practices around the world.
The Resnick Center is the only one of its kind in Israel, grounded in the belief that interdisciplinary research is at the heart of scientific and technological breakthroughs. The Center has adopted an innovative model that encourages physical and intellectual interaction among researchers from diverse fields of expertise committed to fostering sustainability and responsible research practices.
Our vision will be fulfilled through the introduction of innovative programs and initiatives. First and foremost, the Center will serve as an incubator for outstanding young faculty members whose expertise is relevant to the advancement of new forms of catalysis. The incubator will nurture eight new faculty members at a time to conduct research at the Center for a six-year period, after which they will receive tenure at their respective faculties within the Technion.
At the core of the Center’s raison d’être is the understanding that academia and industry need to work together to bring about positive change. The center encourages the spectrum of industrial partners, from the start-up to the multinational, and from the local to the global, to learn how sustainable catalysis can favorably impact their work and to seed fruitful collaboration. The Center will nurture Technion-born start-ups and spinoffs in catalysis, providing valuable support during scale-up through accelerated discovery in the Center’s labs. The Resnick Center will play an active role in boosting the attractiveness of start-ups for prospective investors.
